Brother of the Sirens by Linda M. Crate

lost in the chaos of your eyes
i see the sirens luring
sailors to sleep,
but i cannot look away from the
carnage;
there's this morbid
curiosity,
where do the sailors go when
they stop dreaming?
i've sailed a thousand stories with you,
and they all end the same
in tragedy;
and i understand why there are sirens
dancing in your eyes
because you are their brother
luring all the land girls to their deaths
except me—
my song is a frequency you couldn't understand
i always wanted to be a mermaid
so they protect me
from men like you and all their wicked sisters.
