Sage Skull / Break the Surface Tension by Cindy Rinne

Sage Skull

The Sage speaks for forty years without saying a word.
                                    Ramesh Chaitanya Balsekar

I
She forgot to photograph
the skull by the curb

Split in two pieces,
canine teeth not facing
to bite

II
Starting at the bottom
tombstones stretch
as arms reach beyond

the tangerine sunset
to a blue orb,

patterns of a brain
as lobes vein.
What is absent
from your hand?

Break the Surface Tension

We both create innermost worlds
of cast shadows
to escape the mundane,
to capture light past limitations.

If dawn clutches out of control—

the doll flutters her eyes to sleep,
the mystery book clasps shut,
the lotus pushes through mud.

Reflected lines between
make-believe and reality blur.

  1. I enjoyed the imagery in both of these poems. Break The Surface Tension really makes one think about the reality of life.
