Colorless Reflection by Cindy O'Quinn

Sometimes when you are alone,
            alone in a room
with the person in the mirror,
the one with the colorless face.
Two separate people – not just one,
            and horror looks back
as a reminder of the past.
Did you really see this person?
The one hidden behind glass,
            and your body chills.
It’s so much easier
to believe everyone else,
not the one in the mirror,
the one who strips your will.
In a small dark room,
hangs the only mirror left.
All the others,
took their leave – years ago.
Too many judging faces,
gathered together
leaving behind shadows and dust.
The last one hanging – refuses to go
away from this haunted space,
            that is my mind –
truly the scariest place.
