its wild, mischievous ways.
The haunting cries of seagulls
beckon her to sing
of the pale glow of light houses;
the lives lost at sea.
Gray, bloated bodies bob
atop the waves like buoys
as boats and freighters drift by.
Tonight, again, as she has for years,
she will mourn their passing alone.
Her voice melancholic
as whale song.

ReplyDeleteNice to see a poem of your own here, Sandy. :) What a lovely poem!
ReplyDeleteSandy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a haunting poem. It's so nice to see a poem of yours. Hope you do this again.
Thank you Sarah, Marianne, and Jo! I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. I posted one or two poems in previous years of Poppy Road but I try to make it about other poets and their work instead of mine. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely atmosphere, Sandy - dark and brooding just the way I like it most! Very nice to read some of your work :)
ReplyDeleteRegards, Ryan Stone.
Thanks for the lovely comments Ryan!
