Mirror of the Heart by Richard Schnap

She first passed it
After her first night of love
The mannequin in the window
In a dress embroidered with flowers

Then again on the day
When she became engaged
This time in a gown
Covered with sequined stars

Next on a cold night
After her fiancé broke it off
In a long dark coat
With a matching black veil

And finally in the rain
Falling from an ashen sky
Wearing nothing at all
But a face as pale as a ghost

Richard Schnap is a poet, songwriter and collagist living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His poems have most recently appeared locally, nationally and overseas in a variety of print and online publications.
