Reflection by Mary Jo Balistreri

Light, this early December day
is tubular and hard-edged. Black
calligraphy of oaks scratch
against a scrubbed chalkboard sky.
Snow powders the deck
and song birds have gone south.
A lone leaf waves like a lost mitten
waiting for a small boy’s hand.

Mary Jo is the author of two poetry books, Joy in the Morning and Gathering the Harvest published by Bellowing Ark Press, and one chapbook, Best Brothers published by Tiger's Eye Press. She has received three Pushcart nominations.
