Night Rider by R. Gerry Fabian

I am becoming
somewhat “long of tooth”.
The waitress at the diner
coddles me with childish affection.
The cute grocery cashier
always calls me, “honey”.
Even the wives’ of my friends
are unable to sense
that my heart beats like a stallion.
I sense the pasture door
is about to open.

Lately the only mare
that visits with regularity
is night.
