Coda by Lorraine Caputo

As I close the book
on another office day

transparent sheets of rain
move from volcanic heights

down to this jaguar valley
filled with rumbling thunder

I take a hard seat
on a growling bus

watching the Morse-code rain
streak these dingy windows

listening to the engine’s irregular beat
as dusk darkens the streets

Lorraine Caputo is a documentary poet and travel writer.  Her works appear in over 80 journals in Canada, the US, Latin America and Europe; eight poetry chapbooks and six anthologies.
