Rose Prayer by D.L. Tricarico

I don’t know what else
to ask you God
when my most desperate
prayers return unanswered
when my fevered litany
of need falls on the deaf ear
of a preoccupied deity.
I know you are busy
With inner city crime,
the suffering of children,
and the famines
of a thousand other countries. . .
But I always hoped
there’d be room for one more
small petition
a lone request no bigger
than the final petal
on an already dying rose.
