Lengthening Days by Martin Willitts Jr.

Lengthening Days
Precognition – it is the psychic ability of "knowing the future".
The lengthening days are walking-hunger —
the kind with no borders, no kindness,
the ones with no sweet tasting streams,
unbinding days like braids, wings
wobbling in headwinds to get somewhere —
where healing begins — but not here,
not where judgment has a reserved seat,
not where people have forgotten to dance
a trailing of geese — not here, not here —
forgotten is an older dialog of balance,
of peacemaking — lost — there are no songs
of thanks-giving, only penalties accessed,
unanswered prayers quickly denied
accused of being false, not waiting
for a second opinion — impulsive —
climbing over the high ridge, on looseness,
to see the white spruce valley extend
to a river blending with sky —
the flatness forever — no villages,
no person to interrupt the greenness, only
the hidden where songs are.
