5 Haiku by Paul Hellweg

Sierra Winter

coyote winter coat
air crisp, days short and hungry
moonlit snow sparkles

Day’s End

neighbor walking dog
moth fluttering about, lost,
hesitant sunlight

New Moon

brief gleam, dark intrudes
hope effervescent, love gone,
lonesome stars beckon

Autumn Thunderstorm

unexpected rain
trees glimpsed in lightning flash
ghostly wails, cool, clean

they lost millions
we lost fifty-eight thousand
still the orchids bloom
