Three Englyns by Andrew Taylor

September Fields II

A sweet golden calm sets at summer’s end
kick fallen leaves in tyre tracks
those gone somehow still remain
as gouges in fallow earth

Bird House I

Cleared garden reveals a damaged bird house
first thoughts ideal for fire
I don’t need the fuel so
after repair a new home

Stunned sparrow eyes wide panting on its back
we watch for hiding cats
it recovers takes flight
leaves memory on glass
